A Hospital Ward for Taashinam (2008- Running)

In the 1990s, sick or injured persons from the Gaurishankar region had to be transported in a 3-day hike and over a distance of 50km to the closest pharmacy. In a drive to produce relief and make initial treatment accessible, Pasang Sherpa from Simigaon suggested to set up a hospital ward in the mountains. Bhakta Bahadur Takuri, who is a member of the managing board of Sahar Samuha Nepal, placed a plot of land of his premises to the disposal of the association. With much blood, sweat and tears as well as the active aid of the residents, a hospital ward was built in 2008 which has successfully operated to this day. Since then, approximately 50 patients per month have received initial treatment here. The associated cost averages out at €300 a month, i.e. €6 per patient. The ward is run by two medically trained nurses and a caretaker. Since its establishment in year 2008, we have record of providing primary health assistance to approximately 200 patients in average per year of Taashinam and surrounding villages.

As per May 2015, Unfortunately, the hospital ward fell victim to the earthquake. We are currently focusing on the construction of emergency shelters and provision with staple foods and basic medical supplies. In the long run, we strive towards the reconstruction of the ward which is now needed more than ever. Donations are most welcome!

Tree plantation (2011)

The tree plantation program in Simigaon and Taashinam villages on year 2011 was a promising initiative that brings significant benefits to both the local community and the environment. By planting trees in these areas, the program helps combat soil erosion, improves air quality, and restores biodiversity. The increased green cover will provide shade, reduce the risk of floods, and contribute to better water retention in the soil. For the community, the program offers an opportunity for locals to actively participate in environmental conservation, promoting a sense of ownership and responsibility towards nature. Additionally, as the trees mature, they will offer long-term economic benefits, such as timber, fruits, and other resources, creating sustainable livelihoods. This initiative not only contributes to a healthier ecosystem but also fosters a stronger, more environmentally conscious community in Simigaon and Taashinam.

Educational and recreational Material Distribution (2016)

After the devastating earthquake of 2015, Most of the Simingaon (Eastern Rural village in Nepal) was brought to ground zero.  Little children lost their house and school they were studying in. and udernearth those houses they lost their coursebooks and textbooks as well. In the Year 2016 sahara samuha carried out an educational program Sponsored by “Esciles de Simandres, France”  to distribute Educational and recreational Material to the students of  Simigaon Primary School, Simigaon, under supervision of Mr. Pasang Shepa (President of Sahara Samuha Nepal). The sole objective of this program was to try and console the loss and motivate these terrified students to go back to school. After all education is one of the basic needs for human being.  It was a day long program, which was successfully accomplished with the participation of school staffs  and the villagers as well.

Computer Lab and Library (2018)

Setting up a computer lab and library at Jagat School, equipped with 18 desktop computers and a collection of 70-80 books, is a transformative step towards enhancing the educational experience for students. The computer lab will provide students with hands-on access to technology, allowing them to develop crucial digital skills and engage in research, coding, and interactive learning. These skills are essential in today’s digital world and will prepare students for future academic and professional success. The addition of a library, with its diverse range of books, will foster a love for reading and support students’ learning across various subjects. By having access to both digital and print resources, students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge, improve literacy skills, and develop critical thinking. Together, the computer lab and library create an environment that encourages both academic growth and personal development, equipping students with the tools they need to excel in the modern world.

Study material Distribution (2019)

The distribution of study materials to the students of Setidevi Primary School is a vital initiative aimed at supporting children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Many of these students come from families with very low incomes, with parents working as laborers in brick industries or as porters, making it nearly impossible for them to afford basic educational resources like books and exercise copies. In partnership with Mr. Gerrard, an associate helper and French national, this initiative ensures that these children have access to the tools they need to succeed in their studies. The generous donation of study materials not only alleviates the financial burden on these families but also empowers the students to pursue their education without the constraints of inadequate resources. This effort underscores the importance of providing equal educational opportunities for all, regardless of economic circumstances, and helps pave the way for a brighter future for these children.

Fruit and Tree Plantation (2021)

After gathering and transporting all the raw materials to set up a nursery from Kathmandu to Dolakha (Jagat). Setting up a nursery in Jagat for the Fruit and Tree Plantation Program was a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and community well-being. The nursery provides a variety of seedlings, which were distributed to people within the Gaurishankar Rural Municipality who are interested in participating. By encouraging local residents to plant trees and fruit-bearing plants (oranges, guava to name a few), the program not only helps in increasing the green cover but also promotes biodiversity, improves air quality, and combats soil erosion. Additionally, fruit trees can provide long-term benefits to the community, offering access to fresh produce and potentially generating income for households. The initiative fosters a sense of environmental stewardship, as it empowers individuals to actively contribute to the health of their surroundings. Overall, the tree and fruit plantation program will have a lasting positive impact, enhancing both the local ecosystem and the livelihoods of the people in Gaurishankar Rural Municipality.
